Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
If you are looking for a calm, peaceful getaway close to beautiful forests and swimming holes, this is the place for you. We offer a spacious home in a friendly neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac. It is rare for cars to come this way. The grassy yard is large and waiting for you to enjoy. Our screened in patio is like a tree house, perfect for bird watching over breakfast. The large kitchen is well equipped with appliances, dishes and utensils. When not on the patio we often eat in the dining room, but you can also eat right in the kitchen on the tall bar stools at the island, or at the kitchen table. The living room is a pleasant place to relax and read or help yourself to the piano. On the other side of the mudroom and half bathroom is a guest wing with a TV room and a bedroom with 2 single beds. There is also a full bathroom with a shower stall (no bath). Heading downstairs there is a large, open basement which is a great place to work out or enjoy a game of foozball. We appreciate your tending to the dehumidifier whenever possible (ideally once/day), and you are welcome to use the washer and dryer. Our cat Peekaboo is very friendly and loves your company. His food, water and kitty litter are all tucked away in the basement. At the top of the stairs on the second floor is an office and two bedrooms. Each of those has a single bed, and one has a futon as well. There is also a full bathroom (renovated 2019). At the end of the hall is the largest bedroom with a queen bed and en suite bathroom (renovated 2019). The queen mattress is new (bought in April 2021) and very comfortable. Biking, hiking, running and kayaking opportunities abound in this area, so if you are looking for outdoor adventure this is a good place to start. We live within an easy walk of the UMass Renaissance Center, which borders a field complete with an idyllic tree swing that affords an amazing view of the mountains framing the pioneer valley. Continue into the woods and discover the mountain biking trails made by UMass students but are rarely used. More often we tend to simply walk the trails and enjoy the quiet brook. Hiking/running trails wind through the nearby fields and you may soon find yourself at Simple Gifts, and organic farm stand where you can purchase fruits and vegetables that can't be any more local. The nearby swimming hole, Puffer's Pond, isn't far beyond: a perfect place to cool off in the summer weather. If you want to stray, road biking is also excellent around here, and there are many trails to lead you up the many mountains in the area. Other beautiful places to explore include the Robert Frost Trail, Amythest Brook Conservation Area, Sugarloaf Mountain,The Emily Dickinson Museum, the Smith College Museum of Art, and Smith College Botanical Garden, among others.
