Sunny 2BR APARTMENT suitable for up to four adults, children welcome (futon avail.) My place--once a printing press-- has high ceilings, large windows, and two skylights, making it feel very open and spacious. The living room is furnished with a mix of new and vintage furniture, art books, and curios I've collected over the years. it was not furnished merely for rental purposes; the apartment has character and feels like a real home. The kitchen is up to date and is a pleasure to cook in. It's furnished with an induction stove, microwave, dishwasher, and a good collection gadgets, a set of sharp knives, an espresso- machine, a Zojirushi rice cooker, a Breville toaster oven, and All-Clad pots and pans. There is a full bath (sink, tub/shower, toilet) and a half bath (toilet/sink), and a stacking Bosch washer/dryer in a designated laundry room. The larger bedroom has a double mattress suitable for 1-2 people. It is lit by a window that faces the neighbor's leafy backyard and a skylight with a retractable shade. It has a lovely oriental carpet, three bookshelves, a dresser, a small desk, and a hanging rack for clothes.. The other bedroom is smaller. It has a queen ("organic" Saatva) mattress, mid-century furnishings, a closet, and a ceiling fan, but its one window is tiny. Both rooms have air purifiers, great sheets, down duvets, and a range of pillows from which to choose. Both bedrooms have dressers with at least two empty drawers. Air conditioners (3) are installed in the windows in summer; the electricity is included up to $150 per month ($40 more than my average electrical use). These days, Greenpoint-Brooklyn is one of the most vibrant areas in all of New York, and is often preferred to Manhattan because it feels more contained, more like a real neighborhood and less hectic. The apartment is a few blocks from a supermarket and has a great deli across the street for basic groceries or quick runs for snacks. There are three nearby bakeries and the park, just down the street, has wondeful views to Manhattan. Transportation: The subway is a block away, and the ferry is five blocks away, The ferry is a fun way to get to 34th Street in Manhattan and only takes 7 minutes. City rental bikes (electric) are avail at several locations in the neighborhood. By subway, it's 35 minutes to MOMA Rockefeller Center, Penn Station, Central Park, or Grand Central Station, where you can catch a train to the Hudson Valley. The unit is on a lively, commercial street (think millennial cafe's and bars, not factories) in the Historic Landmark District of Greenpoint. It's filled with classic brownstones, converted lofts, and family life. Recently, an esplanade has been added to the waterfront, for strolling or biking. The neighborhood has tons of restaurants, (some with Michelin Stars, many favorably reviewed by the NYTimes), casual and quirky local cafe's, plenty of bars, a few yoga studios, music venues and two pottery studios. And despite all of this, because my place is a rear apartment, you will sleep as well as in the countryside— it's absolutely quiet. The rent for non-academics is $2050 per week or $6000 by the month. There is a discount for (verifiable) academics: The monthly rate is $5600 and the weekly rent is $1900. Value: For comparison, each of the three neighborhood hotels charges $500 per night for suites that contain one queen bed and sofa bed, and charge an additional $35 per night "resort" fee, plus a 14.75 hotel tax. AVAIL DATES . October 20 to November 6th, and Nov. 29 to December 29.
