I put my heart and soul into rebuilding and remodeling this old farmhouse. Many of my former students contributed to the project as part of their 8th Grade Technology and Engineering class. Students created sketches, drawings, and scaled cardboard models that helped shape the design. During the renovation, an old handwritten diary was discovered in the house. Reading from this beautifully written pen-and-ink journal before class became a daily ritual. It offered a meaningful connection to the history of the home and the people who once lived here. Careful attention was given to preserving original doors, hardware, trim, and flooring. Collaboration with my students ultimately provided valuable input in the final design and floor plan. After many years of design and renovation, this 205-year-old farmhouse has been updated with modern amenities while maintaining its historic character. The home offers a beautiful view and a large backyard with plenty of space for outdoor activities such as frisbee. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful, and safe. A large outdoor deck includes a gas grill and ample seating, making it ideal for entertaining family and friends. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed to prepare meals ranging from simple to gourmet. Special attention was given to both the kitchen layout and the selection of appliances for the serious cook. The home is heated and cooled with air-source heat pumps. All three bedrooms are supplied with continuous fresh air, creating a light and comfortable indoor environment. The primary bedroom includes a private bathroom and a balcony overlooking the hills and valleys of Brooktondale. The two additional bedrooms share a full bathroom with a tub and shower. There is also a three-quarter bathroom with a shower on the first floor. Despite its modern updates, the home still feels connected to its history through original architectural details in the doors, windows, trim, and hardware. The fully furnished home includes high-speed internet and television, electricity, natural gas for the kitchen stove, ADT security and fire monitoring, lawn mowing, snow plowing, garbage and recycling pickup, and professional cleaning service every two weeks. Storage and use of the adjacent barn/garage are also available. The home is located within the Ithaca City School District and is approximately 7 minutes from downtown Ithaca and 5 minutes from the Cornell University campus.
