Mountain Home on the border of a National Forest

Description

The home is located in a rural community in the Sandia Mountains just east of Albuquerque. The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque and is a 30 minute drive. Santa Fe, New Mexico is less than an hour drive along NM 14, which is a designated scenic highway. The house shares a border with the Cibola National Forest. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails -- from demanding to meandering -- right outside the door. The home is located at an elevation of 7,200 feet (2,194 meters). There is sometimes snow in the winter months and cross-country skiing and snow shoeing are also right out the door. There are nearby alpine ski areas for those interested in downhill skiing. The house is comfortable and well-appointed. There are vaulted ceilings and plenty of light throughout. It is almost always sunny in New Mexico and the house has five south-facing slide glass doors to bring in the light. There is one bedroom and one bathroom on the main floor, along with the kitchen, dining/living room, and study space. A second bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. There is a heat pump and a wood burning stove. There are forest views from every window and a gigantic deck overlooking Junipers, Piñon Pine and Ponderosa Pines. The property is peaceful and private. Forest creatures are regular visitors, including a recent kit of foxes born under the deck. New Mexico is rightly described as the Land of Enchantment. The state has a rich history that continues to shape its complicated and fascinating contemporary character. The state is also home to seemingly endless, varied and magnificent landscapes. New Mexico is an escape from the ordinary.
