We are two University of Michigan professors who usually live in this cheerful 2-bedroom/1 bath apartment during the academic year, but we will be on sabbatical during 2026-27, so we are seeking a tenant next year. Our quiet, urban retreat occupies the entire second floor of a gracious old house located two blocks from Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in downtown Ypsilanti. (We own the house and rent the first-floor apartment to a year-round tenant.) Neighborhood is diverse, LGBTQIA+ friendly, and walkable, with cafes, shops, restaurants, a riverside park, public transportation, and protected bike lane nearby. Light-filled living room, separate dining room, and a bright office nook for Zooms. Off-street parking behind the house (two parking spots for the unit). You can catch the public bus 2 blocks away. University of Michigan's Central Campus in Ann Arbor is a 20-minute drive or a 30-minute ride on the express bus. Dogs OK ($50/mo. pet fee). Included: linens and towels, air conditioning, all utilities (fiberoptic internet/wifi, electric, gas, water/sewage, weekly trash/recycling pickup). Access notes: For folks with mobility challenges, please note that this unit is on the 2nd floor and requires climbing a flight of stairs to enter/exit. The back stairs (from parking area) are narrow and steep; the front stairs (from street) are wider and easier to climb. Also, bathroom toilet is standard height (not “comfort height”) and could be difficult for folks who prefer a taller seat. Bedrooms: Queen beds with memory foam mattresses, Brooklinen duvets, and 600 thread count sateen sheets. “Blue Bedroom” has a large closet, dresser, lots of light. “Orange Bedroom” is smaller, darker, has a smart TV (no cable but you can log into your streaming services or Airplay from your device). There is a door connecting the bedrooms — a quirky detail of this old house! — which can be kept closed (for privacy) or open (for parents with small kiddos). Dining room and living room have Joybird furnishings. Round dining table seats four. Living room has a smart TV. Kitchen has new appliances, basic cooking equipment, drip coffee maker, burr coffee grinder, electric kettle. We provide snacks, tea, and delicious coffee from a local roaster, RoosRoast Coffee! Bathroom is basic but functional. Tub/shower combo. Fluffy Fieldcrest “spa” towels, eco-friendly 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner and shower gel. Washer/dryer in basement for your exclusive use.
