About the Living Space The house features two or three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with a tub), two living rooms with fireplaces, a kitchen, a dining room, a balcony, and a terrace. The upstairs living room includes a workspace. The house has its own private entrance and a private garden on the east side; the west side overlooks a shared garden with two other rental cabins and the owner’s studio. The private garden is 60 square meters, and the shared area is much larger, in addition to featuring a small grove of 80 pine and oak trees. In the shared garden, there is also a small orchard of fruit trees and a vegetable garden. About the House Design This house is inspired by the Mexican colonial style but places an emphasis on spatial efficiency. It was built by the owner and his family with a team of masons specializing in the restoration of historic monuments and the use of vernacular architecture. The thickness of the walls adds an aesthetic aspect to the construction and allows for the integration of fireplaces within the house. The use of the “sombra muerta” technique incorporates wood as a decorative element. The use of greenhouses as a heat source gives the house a more sustainable character. The plastering technique using cactus sap and the use of vibrant colors connect the architectural concept with transculturality. About the Neighborhood The Santa Cruz neighborhood is located on the edge of the city’s historic center. It was founded by stonemasons, and its religious festival (on May 3) is the Feast of Santa Cruz. For those who enjoy walking, going up and down to the historic center of San Cristóbal on foot is both feasible and pleasant. We also have a protected area nearby called El Encuentro, which is also accessible on foot. Cyclists are equally welcome.
