This home was built in 1775 and was home to Bowdoin College’s first president. It has all the charm of an historic home, but the warmth and conveniences of a modern one. Solar panels, electric water heater, heat pumps, updated kitchen, two-car garage, perennial gardens, a veggie patch, and tree house: it’s modern living with an antique aesthetic. The home has views of Bowdoin College’s Art Museum and its residents are treated to the gentle chiming of Bowdoin’s chapel bells all day. A rare, large lot in town Brunswick, the property has perennial, shade, and veggie gardens, and plenty of privacy. Enjoy time around the solo stove in the backyard, or gather friends for dinner al fresco at our farm table. Kids will enjoy the tree house and raspberry patch and proximity to Bowdoin College's main quad. The house is steps away from Bowdoin campus, where you can catch wonderful lectures, speakers, musicians and dancers, or watch various sporting events for free. The house is a 2 minute walk to the best coffee shop in town (Dog Bar Jim) and a 3 minute walk to the Downeaster, a train that will take you all along the Maine and New Hampshire coast to Boston's North Station. 8 Minute walk to Brunswick's fabulous public library. 5 Minute walk to the grocery store. 10 minute walk to gelato (gelato fiasco) and donuts (Frosty's). On Tuesdays and Fridays all spring, summer, and fall, the house is a 10 minute walk to one of the best farmer's markets in Maine on Brunswick's town mall. The whole house is available, except for the upstairs attic, which will store our personal belongings. Enjoy first-floor living, with kitchen, living room, dining room, three beds and two and a half baths on the first floor. An additional bedroom and bathroom is upstairs above the garage. The house is historic, which means it's a bit quirky, and far from perfect. But its the charm of the place that made us fall in love with it. The furnace (we've named it Fern) sometimes makes burbling noises, the hallway tilts eastward, and on the very rare occasion (maybe once a year) you can hear Bowdoin students partying. We've done our best to make the place comfy and efficient, but old houses are tricky! We hope you'll be patient and loving with the place, and be our partners in its care.
