Hello! I am an art conservator, moving to Rome on September 1st for an academic fellowship. I have worked at the Smithsonian and lived in Washington, DC for 10 years. I am an academic who loves cozy apartments with historic details and a view that makes me feel like I’m living in Europe, and that’s what I crafted in my home. My apartment is a meticulously curated 1BR/1BA residence in a historic landmark 1927 building directly across from the Washington National Cathedral. It is a top floor, corner apartment with windows in every room and a view of the cathedral from the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. It's a unique blend of historic soul, designer upgrades, and a majestic view that is simply unparalleled in the city. My apartment’s highlights include: the breathtaking view of the National Cathedral, historic character with original 1927 hardwood floors and high-profile molding, a working wood-burning fireplace, a custom library foyer, a chef’s kitchen with a gas stove, breakfast bar, dishwasher, 4-door stainless steel refrigerator, and built-in bookshelves and ample cabinet space. The kitchen has an in-unit washer/dryer combo. Every room has ceiling fans, window air conditioners, and radiator heat. The stunning entryway features deep-blue hand painted lacquered walls and a custom built-in bookshelf. There are three closets with custom Elfa shelves and drawers. The largest bedroom walk-in closet has long hang, short hang, and two sets of drawers. A second bedroom close is configured in Elfa for storage and long hang. The entryway hallway is configured with Elfa shelves for storage. I have 6 custom self-watering flower window boxes under each window, ready for flowers and herbs. My condominium association has a private gated garden behind the building for residents, and there are shaded benches, picnic tables, grills, a grassy lawn, and a dog run. We also have a garden committee and several vegetable and herb garden beds. My neighborhood has a walk score of 90+, with two major bus lines on my block, and a 20 minute walk to the Woodley Park/Zoo metro stop on the red line. It is an easy walk to American University, one bus line to Georgetown, and bus or metro to other universities and museums. I take daily walks around the cathedral grounds, including the Bishop’s Garden (my favorite!) and it’s an easy walk to get to Rock Creek Park and multiple hiking trails in the neighborhood. There are amazing restaurants two blocks north – Cactus Cantina for Tex-Mex, Raku for sushi, Silver for local farm-to-table, Barcelona for tapas, Heritage India for northern Indian food, La Piquette for French, and 2 Amys for Neapolitan wood fired pizza. The Cathedral café across the street is called Open City, and is one of my favorite places to work and write. There are many grocery stores nearby. Giant is 2 blocks away, Wegman’s is a few blocks north, and Whole Foods is a few blocks south. I plan to remove all of my personal items, artwork, and books from the apartment. I am renting it furnished, to include my custom Ethan Allen couch, coffee table, an antique desk, a CB2 bed with Temperpedic mattress, end tables, and an antique Japanese bureau. I have all kitchenware that you could possibly need – pots, pans, baking ware, dishes and cups. The rent includes all condo fees and utilities except for electric (the window air conditioners) and internet (currently I have Verizon Fios fiber). I am happy to negotiate if you want to change electric and internet accounts to your preferred companies or keep mine at cost. I have a minimum 1-year lease requirement. A 2-3 year extension is possible and preferred. Rent is $2,600/month, with one month’s rent as a deposit to be put in an escrow account. I am flexible on the start date as the apartment will be available any time after August 26th. Thank you for looking and considering this special place to be your home in DC. Please reach out with any questions.
