We are renting our beloved 3-BR/1.5 BA family home in the Takoma/Brightwood neighborhood of DC between August 2026-July 2028. Filled with abundant natural light, original hardwood floors, and lots of art, the home is calm, clean, inviting, quiet, and well-located, providing easy, walkable access to plenty of stores, restaurants, schools, parks, and public transportation. The first floor consists of a living room, dining room, recently renovated kitchen, and a sunroom used as a tv and reading room. The second floor has 3 bedroom (1 with queen bed, 1 with full bed, 1 with twin bed) plus a bonus room that can serve as an office or playroom for kids. The basement provides a laundry room and plenty of space for exercise, crafts, and storage. The yard has a small deck and space for kids to run. The home comes fully equipped with kitchenware, linens, TV, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and air conditioning. Utilities (high-speed internet, water, gas, and electricity) are included. It's best suited for a family of up to 4 people. However, it can also accommodate additional temporary guests on a sleeper sofa and a foldable mattress. What we love most about our home is the neighborhood. The home straddles the desirable Takoma and Brightwood neighborhoods, known its welcoming neighbors and for being open, community-oriented, and family-friendly. It is also a hub of thriving small businesses. The home is walking distance to many amenities including: 1. The Takoma metro (Red Line) and several bus routes, providing quick access to downtown D.C. 2. Two large supermarkets plus many smaller grocery stores 3. Neighborhood schools 4. Main street Takoma Park, which hosts an excellent weekly farmer's market and many great restaurants and small businesses (retail, fitness, etc.) 5. The Parks at Walter Reed 6. The Takoma Aquatic Center, which holds an Olympic-sized swimming pool 7. The Takoma Public Library 8. Rock Creek Park 9. Many playgrounds 10. Several "Best of D.C." businesses--e.g., for donuts (Donut Run), coffee (Lost Sock Roasters), books (People's Book), tacos (Cielo Rojo), sandwich (Soko Butcher) and more As you can tell, we love living here. It's a great place to be, and we hope it can serve as a comfortable and enjoyable stay for others while we are away on research leave.
