Description

The house is in Whitehall Park, a collection of leafy Victorian streets that is also a conservation area. It's close to many parks, including Queens and Highgate Woods - both ancient woodlands - and to Hampstead Heath, a place crucial for many Londoners craving green, peace and quiet, a wild swim. My street is halfway up the hill between Archway and Highgate, two very different neighbourhoods. Archway is gritty, well connected, full of useful shops and supermarkets, Highgate was originally built as an 18th century village and is now a wealthy London neighbourhood full of restaurants that is lovely to walk around. A stone's throw north from my house is a lovely café, a small grocery shop and lots of lovely places to walk, including Highgate. Going south the the tube, you find Archway, which is a busier, dirtier and full of useful shops. I am located in Zone 2 about a ten minute walk from Archway tube, which is 0.3 miles away. The northern line will take you into central London in 15 minutes, which means that you can be in a peaceful neighbourhood without sacrificing proximity to the centre and to tonnes of transport links that will take you all over the city. Upper Holloway is the nearest overground. There are many buses that go straight past the end of my road. The room is big and filled with light thanks to a huge bay window, which has recently been replaced. The double bed is new and very comfortable. In terms of furniture, there is a desk, a large wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a chair. The bathroom is compact and was upgraded last year when I moved in. It would be shared only by me, All sheets and towels can be provided. There is also a mini private kitchen that has an induction hob, a comprehensive Ninja stove and airfryer, and a small table anfdchairs. This is also where the washing machine is, so although it's your kitchen, I would have to use it occasionally to put a wash on. I own the house and live there alone, although I am super sociable; between work friends and walking my dog Birkie I am nearly never. Most weeknights during the academic term I am out and am mainly around on the weekends, so this place would be perfect for someone who is working from home and needs peace and quiet. There is the possibility to use my office to work but this needs to be discussed. I have a wonderful dog, Birkie, an Anatolian Shepherd and German Shepherd mix. He is a guard dog and will bark when you come into the house so this place is not suitable for anyone who is scared of dogs. Birkie lives downstairs, where I spend much of my time when at home, so you need not encounter him in you day to day life if you don't want to. My preference, however, would be to find someone who may be interested in reducing their rent considerably (by as much as 35 or 40 per cent) in exchange for walking and feeding Birkie at specific times and on specific days, as well as offering him a bit of company when i am out. This arrangement would have to be thought through quite carefully, Birkie is a rescue dog and needs a confident handler, so if your intention is to discuss rent reduction in exchange for help with the dog, please bear in mind that someone with experience of dogs, and rescue dogs in particular, is essential. If you did decide to befriend Birkie in this way, it's likely that you could have access to the downstairs sitting room and TV over time. This is his space, and he can be protective of it, so it might take time. I work in the realm of psychoanalysis and academia and welcome getting to know people from any discipline. I'm curious, open to the world and it's variety and always up for a conversation and a new friend. I was born in London, and love the city, so can help you find your way around. But I have to say that in my experience of hosting, my guests always teach me more about my own city than I teach them. I look forward to meeting you!
