A characterful Oxford home — ideal for a sabbatical, visiting academic or family Welcome to our much-loved home in Oxford, a comfortable and characterful house in a lively, friendly neighbourhood — ideally located for anyone coming to Oxford for a sabbatical, visiting fellowship, research or teaching appointment. Location is one of the house's great strengths. Several University of Oxford colleges and departments are within a 10-minute walk, making it possible to leave the car behind and enjoy Oxford on foot or by bike. The city centre, with its libraries, museums, cafés, restaurants and historic colleges, is also easily accessible. At the same time, the house offers easy access to nature and open space nearby, with the Thame Path running in front of the house, and nearby Port Meadow, Hinksey Park and other beautiful places for walking, running, cycling or simply escaping the bustle of the city. It's a wonderful location for those who enjoy being outdoors. London is also remarkably easy to reach. Oxford railway station is within walking distance, with regular trains to London Paddington — making the house particularly convenient for academics who may need to travel to London for meetings, conferences or family visits. The house is a welcoming, lived-in family home with the warmth and character of a real Oxford house, with comfortable living spaces, a kitchen suitable for cooking and eating together, and a private garden. It works particularly well for a visiting academic or couple, or an academic family, offering enough space to settle in and make Oxford feel like home for a few months. Osney, which is referenced in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, is formed as an ‘island’ in the Thames, creating a vibrant community feel, with friendly neighbours, two excellent pubs, and a short-walk to Waitrose, the closest supermarket. It's a neighbourhood where people actually live rather than simply visit Oxford. Nearby, there are excellent places for coffee, informal meals and evenings out, as well as parks and playgrounds for children. The atmosphere is relaxed, international and creative, with students, academics, families and long-term Oxford residents living alongside one another. We hope the house will appeal to someone looking not simply for somewhere to stay in Oxford, but for a home from which to experience the city as a local. We would be particularly happy to welcome an academic or academic family looking for a comfortable base for a sabbatical or extended stay and who will enjoy the house, garden and neighbourhood as much as we do.
