Our home is a well-maintained character house on a quiet tree-lined street in the Commercial Drive, Grandview Woodlands neighbourhood of East Vancouver. The suite is completely self contained on the lowest level of our home (we live upstairs) with its own private entrance, bathroom, kitchen, living space, and bedroom. The suite is warmly furnished, with a brand new queen sized bed, comfortable leather couch, recently renovated bathroom, and new fridge. Laundry is available on request. (The washer/dryer is shared with us!) Because it is on the basement level, it stays cool in the summer, but it is also kept warm with its heated floors in the winter. Our community prides itself on being friendly, diverse, and open-minded. A 5-minute walk to the west is Commercial Drive, a bustling street with independent coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and green grocers. Commercial Drive was once Vancouver's Little Italy, but in recent years it has become more of a global village serving everything from pasta and pizza to sushi, Indian curry, Spanish tapas, and Mexican-inspired cocktails. It is a neighbourhood that values the arts and has two theatres staging plays and music performances, as well as an independent movie house. A few minutes walk south from our home is Trout Lake. Here, there is a lovely walking path that circles the lake as well as tennis courts, a recreation center, a playground, pop up beer garden (in the summer months) and a fabulous Saturday morning farmers' market (in the spring and summer months). Trout Lake offers gorgeous views of the north shore mountains and is a favorite neighborhood spot for summer picnics. A 10-minute walk from our home is Broadway and Commercial, which is the busiest transit hub in Metro Vancouver. It has the Skytrain to downtown (7-10 minutes) and connections to the airport (45-60 minutes). There are also regular and express buses moving people all over the city. Commercial Drive has numerous bike sharing stations, which, given the ever-expanding number of bike routes, is our preferred way to get around the city. The Lakewood bike route is at the end of our street, and it links with designated bike routes to downtown (15-20 minutes), Stanley Park (25-30 minutes), and the city's beaches (20-25 minutes).
