I am a Professor at Rutgers University and will be on sabbatical in the UK from the beginning of February 2027 to the end of July 2027. Main features of our apartment: Quiet and sunny. Two blocks from L train, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Target. Our home is a sunny and quiet 2BR APARTMENT suitable for 3 adults or a family of 3. Our charming East Village home is located on the 4th floor of a tenement building (walk-up/no elevator) with a private backyard and community garden next door. The apartment sits in the back of the building off the street so it is very quiet and, with windows in every room, there is an abundance of light. The exposed brick, stained wooden floors and quiet atmosphere give the apartment a cottage-like feel. Our home is well-furnished with a small grand piano in the living-room along with a large flat-screen TV and record player. All rooms have ceiling fans and air-conditioners. The kitchen is large and fully equipped with gas-burning stove, microwave, dishwasher and toaster oven. We love to cook in it and you will too. The spacious master bedroom has a queen-size bed and lounge chair with ottoman adding an additional space to work in and relax. The smaller bedroom has a double bed with a small desk and full-size electric keyboard. There is a full-bath off the master bedroom (sink, shower, toilet) and a half bath off the kitchen (toilet). The apartment includes a small washing machine (no dryer) which is located out in the hallway, making it a convenient option for small loads. For larger loads, like sheets and towels, there are multiple laundromats just a couple of blocks away. The East Village is one of the most vibrant and desirable neighborhoods in New York City. Here are a few highlights: our apartment is 2 blocks from the L train, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Target. Citi rental bikes are available on our block, making it incredibly convenient to get around downtown. We are 3 blocks away from Thompkins Square Park. Our neighborhood boasts some of the city's best restaurants, cafés, cocktail bars and vintage shopping. There are children's playgrounds all around, including our favorite just around the corner on 12th Street. Lastly, from our apartment you can walk to some of the most exciting neighborhoods in the city, including the Lower East Side, Lolita, Union Square, Gramercy Park and the West Village. Major city attractions are a short subway ride away. What we love about our home and we think you will too - its warm beautiful interior, curated collection of books and records and old Steinway piano for making music or simply for the love of music. Available February 1, 2027 - July 31, 2027. Regular Rate: The rent for non-academics is $5,900 per month. Academic Rate (for verified academics): $5,500 per month. Both rates include utilities. The apartment is only available for monthly rental, with a minimal rental of 4 months.
