Set on the third floor of a secure, modern development on a quiet residential street in Bow, East London, this warm and homely one-bedroom apartment offers a genuinely comfortable base for visiting academics, researchers, and anyone on sabbatical or a fixed-term stay in the capital. After a full day of reading, teaching or writing, this is a home to properly switch off in, not a sterile short-let. THE SPACE Spanning 52 square metres (roughly 560 square feet), the flat is generously proportioned for a one-bedroom home. The open-plan kitchen and living area catches good natural light through the day and offers a relaxed spot to work in the living room dining table, if you're working from home between library visits. The bedroom is fitted with ample built-in wardrobe storage, so unpacking properly for a longer stay is easy rather than living out of suitcases. The separate bathroom has both a bath and a shower and the flat also includes a private balcony, a genuinely lovely spot for a morning coffee before heading out, or to unwind with a glass of wine after a long day. The flat is fully furnished to a high standard throughout and ready to move straight into, no need to source so much as a kettle. It also contains a professional spin bike for you to use, along with a bi-weekly cleaning service as standard, so your focus can stay on your research rather than on housework. THE BUILDING The development itself is well maintained and quiet, with a shared communal courtyard that adds a genuine sense of community without ever feeling crowded or noisy. There's secure bike storage on site, handy given how well-connected the area is by bike. The building feels safe and settled from street level upward, and the third-floor position (with lift access) means good light and a bit of distance from street noise. THE LOCATION Bow is one of East London's most liveable, low-key neighbourhoods, residential and calm, while still being genuinely well connected to the rest of the city. Queen Mary University of London's Mile End campus sits right by the station, and from there it's a straightforward, direct journey into most of central London's university district - UCL, LSE, King's, SOAS and Imperial are all comfortably reachable with the tube. Day to day, a local Sainsbury's across the street covers the essentials, and Roman Road Market and the wider Victoria Park area are a short stroll away for fresh produce, weekend browsing and a proper green space to clear your head in. In fact, the walk to Mile End station itself runs straight through a lovely local park, a genuinely pleasant 15-minute walk rather than a slog along a main road, or as little as 3 minutes by Lime bike, with docks plentiful throughout the neighbourhood. From Mile End you have the Central, District and Hammersmith & City lines all on your doorstep. THE PRACTICALITIES Available from 1st October Minimum stay: 1 month, flexible beyond that All bills included: electricity, gas, water and WiFi Bi-weekly cleaner included Pets considered, and couples are very welcome Smoking permitted on the balcony only Genuinely happy to accommodate institutional bookings made on behalf of a visiting scholar, researcher or academic department If you're after a quiet, comfortable home to actually live in during your time in London, rather than a generic furnished flat, then I'd love to hear from you. Happy to answer any questions about the flat, the neighbourhood, or the practical arrangements.
