This fabulous loft style guest house is part of an architecturally significant contemporary home featured in the NY Times. Designed and programmed for visiting artist residencies 6 months of the year, it is available as a rental the rest of the year. It is located on a steep wooded slope overlooking New Hope Creek in Orange County, NC between the towns of Durham and Chapel Hill. The house is perched at the edge of 1600 acres of the Duke University Forest which offers miles of wonderful hiking and jogging trails. Despite the forest seclusion, we are located less than 15 minutes from Duke University, NC Central University, and Durham to the Northeast and UNC Chapel Hill and the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro to the Southwest. Raleigh and other communities in the Triangle area are only slightly further away. The Triangle area of North Carolina is one of the most beautiful and desirable places to live in the USA and has a wealth of cultural amenities and social opportunities. Bon Appetite magazine named Durham and Chapel Hill America’s “Foodiest Small Towns” and we are home to some of the top restaurants in the entire country. There is a strong commitment to the arts in the area and a diverse and talented community of artists. Suitable for a single person or couple. NO PETS or kids. 1BR with double bed, Kitchen, Full Bath, and Studio. 270 degree views from loft bedroom. Laundry, library and photography gallery adjacent. High Speed Wireless and Security System. NO SMOKING INDOORS OR OUT. There is full climate control, operable windows for good cross ventilation, a ceiling fan, and a flexible lighting system. There is a wrap around deck, wonderful shade garden, and other outdoor areas. The kitchen has a refrigerator, two burner electric cook-top, a combination convection/microwave oven, a dishwasher, large sink, and all necessary cooking utensils and tableware. There is an expandable dining table (seats 6) and a storage pantry. A large moveable kitchen island with cabinets doubles as a work table. Rent helps to fund visiting artist travel stipends.
