Sunny 2BR APARTMENT suitable for up to four people, children welcome. My place, a former printing press, has high ceilings, large windows, and two skylights, making it feel open and spacious. The living rom is furnished with a mix of new and vintage furniture, art books, and curios I've collected over the years.it was not furnished quickly, merely for rental purposes. In other words, the apartment has character and feels like a real home. The kitchen is up to date and is a pleasure to cook in. It's furnished with an induction stove, microwave, dishwasher, and a good collection gadgets, a set of sharp knives, an espresso- machine, a Zojirushi rice cooker, a Breville toaster oven, and All-Clad pots and pans. There is a full bath (sink, tub/shower, toilet) and a half bath (toilet/sink), and a stacking Bosch washer/dryer in a designated laundry room. The larger bedroom has a double mattress suitable for 1-2 people. It is lit by a window that faces the neighbor's leafy backyard and a skylight with a retractable shade. It has a lovely oriental carpet, three bookshelves, a dresser, and a small hanging rack for clothes.. The other bedroom is smaller. It has a queen ("organic" Saatva) mattress, mid-century furnishings, a closet, and a ceiling fan, but its one window is tiny. Both rooms have air purifiers, great sheets, down duvets, and a range of pillows from which to choose. The air conditioners (3) are installed in the windows in summer; the electricity is included up to $150 per month ($40 more than the cost of my own average electrical use) These days, Greenpoint-Brooklyn is one of the most vibrant areas in all of New York, and is often preferred to Manhattan because it feels more contained, more like a real neighborhood and less hectic. The apartment is a few blocks from a supermarket and has a great deli across the street for basic groceries or quick runs for snacks. Three of the best bakeries are 5-10 minutes away. The waterfront park is just down the street. And transportation is great: the subway is a block away, the East River ferry, five blocks away, will carry you to 34th Street in 7 minutes or as far as Wall Street. And you can find City rental bikes (electric) throughout the neighborhood. All to say, it's a good base from which to explore. For example, it is a 35 min ride to MOMA, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, and it's 30 min. to Grand Central Station where you can catch a Metronorth train to the Hudson Valley. The unit is on a lively, commercial street (think millennial cafe's and bars, not factories) in the Historic Landmark District of Greenpoint, which is filled with classic brownstones and family life. Recently, the waterfront has been developed into a wonderful esplanade for strolling, people watching, and viewing the sunset and skyline. The neighborhood is dense with restaurants, (some with Michelin Stars, many favorably reviewed by the NYTimes), casual and quirky local cafe's, plenty of bars, a few yoga studios, music venues and two pottery studios. And despite all of this, because my place is a rear apartment, you will sleep as well as in the countryside— it's absolutely quiet. It rents by the week for $1925, or by the month for $5600. If less than a week, the daily rate is $350. For comparison, each of the three neighborhood hotels charge $500 per night for suites containing a queen bed and sofa bed (none offer two beds). They charge an additional $35 per night "resort" fee, and there's a 14.75 hotel tax. An adjacent space is also available, separately. See photo of room with fireplace and daybed, It's super charming, but only has a ceiling fan, no air conditioning, and you can hear street noise. It has been used as an office (it has a desk) and for visiting guests. It rents for $125 a night, as an add-on to the main rental. These days I mainly live in San Francisco, but I come back a few months out of the year to get my New York fix.
