Our farmhouse was built in 1693 and was part of the diocese of Fiesole. It was called "La Croce" which in Italian means The Cross. It is on the cross roads to the springs at Cintoia between Florence and Siena. The ground floor has a large terrace with table and chairs for outdoor dining. During summer months it is covered for shade. From the terrace, you enter the large kitchen. Stairs from here lead to the first floor landing which was the barn portion of the house. The first floor has a trough which we use to store books and outdoor lanterns. The stairway from here leads to the second floor living room and two ensuite bedrooms. The bath in the master bedroom looks out over the Castle. We call it the loo with a view. There is another bedroom and bath on this floor with views over the fields and vineyards. One modern addition is a wooden pergola which we had built amidst olive trees to hold the Tesla solar panels. Since our home is under the landmark preservation society, they could not be installed on the roof. The pergola is a welcome addition.
